Dear Friends:

Hope all of you are fine and staying active. IASCCOFNY organized two Zoom meetings this week on May 28 & 30, 2020.

1. Diamond & Golden Anniversary –  May 28:

A dazzling celebration of 16 couples’ Diamond and Golden anniversary took place on Zoom with a musical program by Mrs. Varsha Joshi who unleashed a series of wedding songs which made seniors to reminisce their wedding day.

Varsha Joshi, a musical virtuoso who had given her musical programs to our Center in the past a few times, regaled members (320 Zoom entries) with wedding songs and Bollywood romantic songs. Her daughter Tweesha also sang a couple of beautiful songs.

Mr. & Mrs. Hemant and Sugna Pandit sponsored the program in celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary. Thanks to the couple.

Our hearty congratulations to the 16 couples.

2. (A) Medical Presentation  –  May 30:

Seniors who have been confined to their homes for more than two months due to the Coronavirus are itching to go out once the stay-home restrictions are lifted. The first phase in NYC starts June 8. In order that seniors follow precautionary measures while going out and come back home, the Center arranged a presentation by Dr. Ishita Sheth who has specialized in infectious diseases. Her profile is attached.

Dr. Sheth gave an excellent presentation for an hour and a half to our members who appreciated her fact-filled discussion about the precautionary measures to be taken while going out and coming back home. She thoroughly explained about the use of masks, sanitization, social-distancing, quarantine, medications, vitamins, and a range of other relevant issues covering the whole nine yards. Her lucid style of presentation in English, sprinkled with Gujarati explanations, was revved by the members. The Q&A session was informative.

Dr. Sheth is the daughter of our active member Mr. Ashok Sheth whose mother, 96 and a founding member, blessed her grand daughter.

We thank Dr. Ishita Sheth for spending her valuable time with us.

2. (B) Entertainment Program:

Our members Pankaj Parikh, Dr. Ojas Desai, Dinesh Shah (Kailasben), and Renukaben & Chandrakant Shah entertained members with jokes, songs and shayaries. Thanks to all of them.

3. A Benevolent Work by a Youngster:

Our members Mr. & Mrs. Mahesh & Urmila Shelat’s grand daughter Khushie, 14 and a 10th grade student, spearheaded a project of raising funds to finance the cost of food for the first-line responders at hospitals and health care facilities. Her sincere efforts already fetched a donation of about $5,000 – not a small thing to raise for a youngster.

Her selfless service was appreciated by Congressman Thomas Suozzi, a NY Senator, a Nassau County Legislator and a Supervisor of the Town of Oyster Bay.

We made an appeal on Zoom to contribute for the noble cause and within minutes, the pledges were received as follows:

India Home – $200
Mrs. Rekha Gajiwala- $100
Jyotindra Patel – $100
Jitendra Zaveri – $100
Pradeep Zaveri – $100
Hasuben Navinbhai -$100
Bharatbhai & Niranjanaben – $100
Mukund Mehta – $100

In addition, some members had fleshed on the Zoom screen. All those whose names appear above and those who had fleshed their donations may send at the following link:

Alternatively, checks may be mailed at Khushie Shelat at 37 Kettlepond Road, Jericho, NY 11753

Congratulations to Khushie for her praiseworthy work. Thanks to all the donors.

4. Grocery from India Home:

We’ve been advised by India Home that some members have taken the advantage of the free Indian grocery distribution. As explained earlier, the service is meant for seniors (regardless of their financial status) who don’t go out and don’t have convenient means to request their families/friends/neighbors to deliver groceries.

Eligible seniors are requested to order enough groceries for themselves and not to add on items for others since India Home has to stretch out dollars to as many seniors as possible. Thanks for your understanding.

5. The Computer Class:

Prof Raj Vangapaty is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting on May 31, 2020.

Topic: Computer Technology Course for India Home Members
Time: This is a recurring meeting Sunday at 10:30 am to 12:30pm.
