PRESIDENT’S REPORT # 10 - Mukund Mehta

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Dear Friends:

Hope all of you are in good spirit and keeping yourself preoccupied physically and mentally. Although we are all homebound and  kneecapped by the Coronavirus, there are plenty of Zoom programs to keep us engaged. Let’s narrate some of our activities which keep ourselves busy:

1. The Dhomne Group’s Musical Extravaganza:

Surabhi & Sachin’s 2-hour musical program along with their group on Zoom provided an excellent entertainment to seniors on Thursday, May 21. We received congratulatory messages admiring the quality of the program, selection of songs, and the orchestra.

Surabhi, a renowned virtuoso, does not need introduction as seniors have enjoyed her singing talent for several years. She and Mukul unleashed a variety of songs – classical as well as those based on Shastriya sangeet, highlighting songs of famed singers including Mohammad Rafi, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, among others. The audience cherished Sachinbhai’s mastery over Tabla and the coordination by musicians. Seniors enjoyed songs from films Anand, Barsaat, Kohinoor, Abhiman, and others.

The compering by Manoj Salpekar, a scholar in film music, was very impressive and he aptly stated that since faces of the people are nowadays covered by masks, the only way they can express their feelings and messages is through body language such as eyes and gesturing. Apropos to his observation, singers unleashed songs such as Dekha Me Teri Ankho Me Pyar Pyar Pyar, Yeh Dekh Ke Dil Zooma Le Pyar Ne Angdaai, Isharo Me Isharo Mahobat Ke, Chhukar Mere Man KoKiya Tune Kya Ishara,Badla Mausam Lage Pyara Jag Sara, etc.

The ensemble’s finale ended with the famous song for Shirdi Sai Baba.

Thanks to Jitubhai and Ritaben Zaveri for sponsoring the program to celebrate the birth of a grand son. Congratulations to Dada and Dadi.
