PRESIDENT’S REPORT # 22 - Mukund Mehta

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Dear Friends:

Hope all of you are doing fine and had a happy Raksha Bandhan last Sunday. Most of you must have watched yesterday the groundbreaking ceremony of Shree Ram Temple at Ayodhya, India. Jai Siya Ram.

During the week, the Center organized two Zoom meetings on Thursdays, August 6 and August 8.

1. THE AUGUST 6TH MEETING:

The meeting started with a prayer by Illaben Butala.

A. Dr. Vipul Patel’s Presentation:

Due to the power outage, the scheduled speaker Dr. Hasit Thakore’s presentation was postponed and in lieu thereof, at the eleventh hour, we requested Dr. Vipul Patel, Oncologist, who instantly agreed to give a lecture on “COVID-19, Second Wave & Beyond.” We’re thankful to Dr. Patel.

Since the entire meeting was recorded and has been placed on Utube, courtesy of our member Mr. Jyotindra Patel, we have shortened this report

Dr. Patel in his presentation lasting over an hour covered the whole nine yards on the COVID-19 subject from its onset up to the latest progress of vaccines. He strongly recommended for the COVID tests involving nasal swab and antibody and alerted against tracing scams. He lamented that if enough number (70%) of people don’t get themselves vaccinated, it would be difficult to attain a herd immunity.

Currently, about 25 entities are developing vaccines of which two Indian companies will be providing 60% of the worldwide requirement. Healthcare workers and aged seniors will get priority once the FDA approves vaccine.

Dr. Patel discussed various therapies and recommended flu vaccine, pneumonia vaccine, vitamin C, zinc, turmeric, sudarshan, yoga and socials activities like bhajans and katha. He has provided important information of CDC guidelines and a list of healthy foods. Please see his two attachments.

Interesting Q&A session followed. Seniors gave a thumping applause to Dr. Patel for his informative and educative talk and for making the presentation at a short notice. Please contact him at vipul8154@gmail.com or 917 319 0691 if you have any questions.

Dr. Patel’s brief profile is attached.

B. The Musical Program:

Mr. Mandeep Devashryee, a well known singer from Ahemedabad, entertained seniors with a series of songs of Mohammad Rafi, Mukesh and ghazals of Arjit Singh. He unleashed a varieties of Bollywood songs including Mera Mehboob Aya Hai, Aane Se Uske Aaye Bahar, Chaudhvin Ka Chand, Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye, Bar Bar Dekho, Aji Aisa Mauka  Phir Kahan Milega, Tum Hi Ho, etc.

A birthday song Bar Bar Din Ye Aaye for our member Hemantbhai Pandit capped the finale. Viewers applauded the singer.

Mr. Mandeep Devashryee is the nephew of our member Mr. Pankaj Devashryee who suggested his name.

A Vote of Thanks by Pankajbhai Parikh.

2. THE AUGUST 8TH MEETING:

The meeting started with a prayer by our members Rajeshbhai & Rupaben Dharia. As you may know, Rupaben is our Yoga teacher.

Due to the sickness of some artists of the Dhomne Group, the scheduled program of “Shyam Teri Bansi” was postponed. In lieu thereof, the Center organized a musical orchestra “Jashn E Rafi“ commemorating the legendary singer Mohammad Rafi. The ensemble led by Ahemedabad-based well known singer Mandeep Devashryee together with famous singer Nikita Shah and accompanied by five musicians entertained seniors for over two hours. The program was designed by Saurin Jamarwala and anchored by Haresh Motiani.

Our thanks to Jyotindrabhai, Past President of GSNY, and Paranjyotiben Patel for  sponsoring the program. This report is abbreviated since Jyotindrabhai has recorded the meeting and placed it on YouTube. Thanks.

The duo covered a swath of Rafi’s songs such as Gulabi Ankhen, Jiya Ho Jiya Kuch Bol Do, Tere Ghar Ke Samne, Janam Janam Ka saath Hai, Badan Pe Sitare Lapete Huye, Aa Gaye Din Sanam,  Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar, Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Churche, Aaja Aaja Mein Hun Pyar Tera, Mujhko Tum Jo Mile, Sau Baar Janam Lenge, Jo Wada Kiya Woh Nibhana Padega, among others.
