PRESIDENT’S REPORT
HAPPY INDIA’S 74TH INDEPENDENCE DAY
Dear Friends:
Hope all of you are doing well and celebrating India’s 74th Independence Day. During the week, the Center organized a Zoom meeting on Thursday, August 13, 2020.
This report is abbreviated since the meeting is recorded and placed on YouTube, courtesy of our member Jyotindrabhai Patel.
1. The August 13th Meeting:
The meeting started with a prayer by Dilipbhai and Rekhaben Tolat and chanting of Nand Bhaiyo by viewers celebrating the Nand Mahotsav.
A tribute was paid to our member Mr. Kanubhai Patel’s wife Mrs. Savitaben who passed away last Saturday. Our condolences and sympathies to the family. May God rest her soul in peace. A moment of silence was observed. Condolence messages may be sent to Kanubhai at diptipatel17@gmail.com
Mr. Sukhdev Gadhavi, a recipient of the Pride of Gujarat award bestowed upon at the House of Lords at London through the courtesy of our member Bharatbhai Goradia, entertained seniors for over an hour and a half with dayro, lokgeets, bhajans, jokes and short anecdotes. He was accompanied by an orchestra singer Ms. Jignaben Sathwara along with musicians.
Mr. Gadhavi and Ms. Sathwara regaled the audience with various bhajans and songs including Achyutam Keshavam, Patan Thi Patola Mongha Lavjo, Dikri Mari Ladakvayi, Mara Ghar Man Birajata, Mann Mor Bani Thanghat Kare, Mare Todle Betho Mor Kyan Bole, Dwarika No Nath Maro Raja Ranchhod Chhe, and capping with Kasumbi No Rang.
The audience gave a thumping applause to Mr. Gadhavi.
Our sincere thanks to Bharatbhai Goradia for arranging Mr. Gadhavi’s program. This was the fifth program he had arranged to entertain our seniors during the pandemic period.
2. Dr. Virendra Jhaveri’s Presentation:
Dr. Virendra Jhaveri, practicing dentistry for 30 years and teaching graduating students at NYU Dental School, gave down-to-earth advice to our seniors for proper care of their teeth. He discussed various aspects relating to dental issues such as the importance of saliva, regular visits to dentist, benefits of visiting the same dentist, dental hygiene, use of tooth brush and flossing, and three types of services, viz., preventive, basic, and major involving crown, cap, gum surgery, etc.
Dr. Jhaveri concisely explained the dental services provided during the COVID-19 period. Interesting Q&A session provided important information to the audience. His lecture in Gujarati was revved by the audience who applauded his presentation.

(i) Mr. R. D. Patel’s Presentation:
A talk by Mr. R. D. Patel, Psychotherapist, on “Maro Suraj Athamavani Taiyari Ma Chhe” (Sunset of my life is on the horizon) is planned on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 11:00am.
(ii) Musical Program:
A musical program celebrating Lord Ganesh Utsava is planned on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 11:00am, sponsored by Mr. & Mrs. Mahesh & Urmila Shelat, and Mrs. Bhartiben Ashvinbhai Parikh.
The program was to be performed by the Dhomne Group; however, one of the musicians passed away and temporarily they cannot perform. Therefore, the program will be performed by SA RE MUSIC, Raj & Smruti Pandya family of Kentucky.

A musical program by Dhomne Group with orchestra dedicated to Shankar-Jaikishan is planned on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 11:00am, sponsored by Drs. Dilip and Dipika Doctor.
