PRESIDENT’S REPORT # 28 and 29 - Mukund Mehta

PRESIDENT’S REPORTS

Dear Friends:

Hope all of you are doing well. The Center organized two Zoom meetings this week, viz., Thursday, September 17 and Saturday, September 19, 2020. The following meeting reports are abbreviated since they are recorded and placed on YouTube by our member Mr. Jyotindrabhai Patel. Thx Jyotindrabhai.

1. Meeting – Thursday, September 17:

The meeting started with a prayer by Mrs. Vinodaben Patel.

(A) Singer Ms. Mayuri Patalia:

After President’s welcome address, Mr. Bharat Goradia introduced Ms. Mayuri Patalia of Baroda, India, as a versatile singer having 3,000 performances under her belt and possessing qualities of a Triveni Sangam of beauty, voice and brain. Bharatbhai has entertained our seniors during depressing Coronavirus environment by bringing several talented artists from India; today’s program is seventh which culminates as one third of the Center’s 21 Thursday programs so far. Thx Bharatbhai.

Mayuri kicked off with Vaishnav Jan To Tene Re Kahiye. Thereafter, she unleashed a range of songs including Tadbeer Se Bigdi Hui Taqdeer Bana Le, Aage Bhi Jane Na Tu Pichhe Bhi Jane Na Tu, Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya, Nayan Ne Bandh Rakhine, Aaja Re Pyar Pukare, Dum Maro Dum Mit Jaye Gham, Chandan Sa Badan, Mere Mehboob Tujhe Meri Mohobbat Ki Kasam, Aayega Aanewala, among others.

Mayuri mesmerized viewers for an hour and a half and was applauded.

(B) Vartalap by the Juthani Couple:

Dr. Virendra Juthani, a retired Cardiologist and an aficionado of photography, gardening and music, succinctly discussed the direct and indirect  impact of Covid-19. Autopsy of patients revealed the virus’s direct impact on heart mussels resulting in less pumping due to its spread. Patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular problems, etc., postponed visits to hospitals fearing the indirect impact of the virus.

In order to improve the heart condition, Dr. Juthani stressed the importance of changing the life style by avoiding smoking, stress, observing weight control, and taking proper medicines. He dealt at length, which can be listened in the recorded meeting, cardinal principles to improve the heart condition which are summarized under alphabets ABCDE meaning Aspirin, Beta blockers, Cholesterol, Diet, and Exercise. Interesting Q&A session followed.

Dr. Nalini Juthani, a retired psychiatrist, discussed various issues stemming from the prevalence of Covid-19 for the last six months in a sort of a town hall style system answering questions from viewers instead of giving a monologue presentation. The system seemed to be a success since inquisitive viewers showered their questions on her. Questions encompassed issues such as emotional health, mental health, post-death issues, anxiety, depression, long term remnants, positive impact, etc. Since there are no known medicines to cure Covid-19 patients and vaccines are still away for six to eight months, she suggested to take proper precautions through masks, social distancing, diet, exercise, enough sleep, etc. Even though vaccines may come to market, people may harbor concerns about their effectiveness.

You may recall that Dr. Juthani had given a medical presentation to our viewers some three months back. In addition to her passion for arts, photography and writing, she has published two memoirs and co-authored a book entitled Mental Illness among South Asian Americans. Beside being a life-time student, she conducts and supports social and medical missions in India and the US.

Viewers applauded the Juthani couple for their resourceful presentations.

Pankajbhai Parikh, VP, briefed about the remaining September programs.

A Vote of Thanks by Mr. Niranjan Patel, Secretary.

Thanks.
