PRESIDENT’S REPORT # 33 - Mukund Mehta
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Dear Friends:
The following is a brief report of the weekly Zoom meeting of Thursday, October 8, 2020. The report is abbreviated as the meeting was recorded and promptly placed on YouTube by our member Mr. Jyotindrabhai Patel. Thanks Jyotindrabhai.
1. The October 8th Meeting:
The meeting started with a prayer by Mrs. Smitaben Mehta.
(A) Shri Giriraj Shastriji’s Presentation:
Welcoming Shastriji, President appreciated his wisdom and his teachings of life’s happiness. Today’s subject was “હું અને તું, અમે બનીએ.” We thank our member, a Well Wisher, for sponsoring the series.
Starting with a prayer, Shastriji distinguished between selfless truth and practical (વાસ્તવિક) truth with a goal to achieve happiness (આનંદ) by integrating myself and yourself which would ultimately minimize heartache. He strongly believed that any preachings and discourses on religion by Gurujis should include practical advice for the improvement of the society (સમાજ કલ્યાણ.) His organization ગોપીનાથ સંસ્થા in India is founded on that principle.
Key ingredients for enjoying happiness and giving happiness to others require that a person should be a best observer and a best listener who overlooks others’ negative acts and purges suspicions. In order to achieve purity and happiness, one has to follow the example of how a glittering gold is made from mounds of debris from gold ore mine.
It’s obvious that a husband and a wife have different likes and dislikes, but the key to happiness is to make adjustments between them and praise rather than taunt each other. Today’s topic of હું અને તું is not restricted only to the relationship between a husband and a wife, it equally applies to relationships between brothers, friends, teacher and a pupil, God and a devotee. Unless there is an integration between the two and become one, there cannot be a real happiness – આનંદ, મધુવન, નંદનવન. A cordial relationship is built from love
પ્રેમ emanating from heart and not from the so-called intelligentsia. Moreover, it takes longer time to develop (સર્જન) a true love and relationship between હું અને તું, but it could get destroyed (વિસર્જન) in no time. Therefore, the elements of પ્રેમ, સમાધાન, સમર્પણ અને સહેજતાથી સ્વીકારવાની શક્તિ are the ingredients for real happiness આનંદ. Also, respect others to get respect for self and develop the habit of ત્યાગની ભાવના.
Shastriji explained the meaning of પતિ (husband) as the one who protects, supports and sustains until his last breath. He referred to વિશ્વપતિ, the protector of the world, as referred in the tenth adhyay of Bhagvad. Distinguishing the vital difference between a man and a woman, he hailed woman as પૂર્ણ and અર્ધાંગીની. He also advised a better use of tongue since it can act as a double-edged sword, as well as to purge adamancy and the ego of હું.
Viewers appreciated and applauded Shastriji’s sage wisdom.
(B) Music Program:
We’re thankful to Mrs.Gitaben Kishorbhai Patel for sponsoring the musical program.
Anesthesiologist Dr. Dhiren Buch of California entertained viewers with songs of famous singers including Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Mukesh, Hemant Kumar, Manna Dey, Talat Mahmood, and Mahendra Kapoor.
His variety of songs included Ek Ajnabee Haseena Se, Phoolon Ke Rang Se, Gulabi Aankhen Jo Teri Dekhi, Dil Ek Mandir Hai, Chal Akela Chal Akela, Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye, Na Tum Hamen Jano, Bekarar Karke Hume Yun Na Jaiye, Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli, Aye Mere Dil Kahin Aur Chal, Tari Annkh No Afini, Neele Gagan Ke Tale Dharti Ka Pyaar Pale, Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaoon, among others. The finale captured beautiful Garba songs with viewers dancing to the rhymes in their homes.
Dr. Buch was applauded by viewers for his beautiful voice and selection of songs.
