PRESIDENT’S REPORT # 45-46 - Mukund Mehta

PRESIDENT’S  REPORT

Dear Friends:

The following are brief reports of the December 3 and December 5, 2020 Zoom meeting reports which are abbreviated since the meetings were recorded and placed promptly on YouTube by Jagdishbhai Patel, VP-PR. Thanks Jagdishbhai.

(A) The December 3rd Meeting:

The meeting started with a prayer by Mrs. Jayshreeben Bhatt.

A moment of silence was observed to pay tribute for the sad demise of our member Mr. Vipinchanda (Pravinbhai) M. Shah who passed away due to coronavirus. Our condolences and sympathies to the family. May God rest his soul in peace. Condolence messages may be sent to jigs.elliottlauren@gmail.com

While welcoming members, President urged them to follow all the guidelines of CDC since the virus has inflicted untold physical, emotional and psychological trauma on people.

1. The Musical Program:

Preety Bhalla, a renowned singer from Mumbai entertained viewers for 75 minutes with Bollywood songs, ghazals and Garbas.

We’re thankful to our member Mr. Bharatbhai Goradia for arranging today’s Preety Bhalla’s program which is tenth event that he has organized for the benefit of our seniors during the pandemic period. He strongly believes that it is his duty as a member to serve the entertainment needs of seniors and render Seva to them. Very thoughtful Bharatbhai.

Bharatbhai’s introduction and short video are attached. The video depicts his successful achievements in Bollywood arena. We encourage our members to share their or family members’ achievements which could inspire or motivate others. Please refer item 5 about Mr. Sanmukhlal Shah, 98, a freedom fighter.

Preety Bhalla’s soulful singing included Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh, Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha, Bheegi Bheegi Raaton Mein, Teri Bindiya Re, Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu, Haal Kaisa Hai Janab Ka, Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho, Tumko Dekha  To Ye Khayaal Aaya, Honto Se Chhu Lo Tum, Gulabi Aankhe Joh Teri Dekhi, Damadam Mast Qalandar, Tenu Kala Chashma, Badtameez Dil, Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan, and capped with Garba.

Versatile and multilingual Preety’s melodious voice revved viewers.

2. Dr. Nilesh Soni’s Presentation:

Dr. Nilesh Soni, versatile physiotherapist, who has given several  lectures in the past, gave a 75-minute down-to-earth presentation on spine and arthritis, highlighting some do’s and don’ts for a healthy life. Dr. Soni’s profile is attached.

The S-shaped spine which plays an important role for a posture has three natural curves and consists of vertebrates, disks, ligaments, muscles, tendons and nerves which constitute Musculoskeletal system. Musculoskeletal Disorders could result from injuries caused by heavy liftings, repeated motions, awkward positions, etc., which affect a body’s movements. For a healthy spine, Dr. Soni recommended frequent movements instead of prolonged sitting, dancing while enjoying songs on Zoom, ergonomic (standing) desk, and regular exercise. The brain and spine which constitute the central nervous system control our daily functioning.

Dr. Soni explained at length the arthritis also known as joints inflammation and its symptoms, causes and remedies. Symptoms include pain, swelling, stiffness and restrictions on movements. Joints degeneration may be felt in knees, elbows, shoulders, ankles, spine and neck. He recommended stretching, isometric quadriceps and hamstring exercises.

Interesting Q&As followed. Viewers appreciated Dr. Soni’s lucid analytical discussion, sprinkled with jokes, and slides demonstrations.

A Vote of Thanks by Mr. I.G. Patel.

3. Akshay Patra Donations:

We are thankful to members who had pledged donations to Akshay Patra. Those who have not yet mailed checks were requested to do so at the earliest.

5. Reports of Extraordinary Achievements:

Members are encouraged to report their or their family members’ extraordinary achievements which could be inspiring or motivating to other members.

In our earlier WhatsApp message, we had reported news of Indian Freedom Fighter Mr. Sanmukhlal  Gordhandas Shah, 98, (who is the uncle મામા of our past Jt. Secretary Mr. Narendra Choksi,) who was feted by high ranking government officials. A brief write up together with felicitation photos were recently placed on IASCCOFNY WHATSAPP.
