PRESIDENT’S REPORT # 67 - Mukund Mehta

PRESIDENT’S  REPORT

Dear Friends.

The following is a brief report of the March 4, 2021 Zoom meeting and the proceedings of the meeting are recorded and promptly placed on YouTube by Jagdishbhai Patel, VP-PR. The meeting was anchored by Pankajbhai Parikh, VP. The meeting was hosted by Jagdishbhai Patel and co-hosted by Niranjanbhai Patel. Thanks to all.

1. (a)  Mr. Salil Zaveri’s Presentation:

The meeting started with a prayer by Kaushikbhai & Niruben Hansoti.

President welcomed members, thanked Mr. Sudhirbhai Vaishnav, Executive Director of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, for recommending today’s speaker Mr. Salil Zaveri, and introduced the speaker.

Mr. Salil Zaveri, a rotarian and a 40-year veteran insurance specialist having experience with prominent insurance companies and holding managerial stints, often makes insurance-related presentations to a variety of groups for maximizing returns on their investments. His profile is attached.

Regarding life insurance policies currently held by seniors, he commented that most of the time the purpose of policy was to take care of mortgages and children’s tuitions in case of a premature death. However, once such purpose is fulfilled, policy holders’ continued payment of premiums to get upon death a fixed amount specified decades ago is not a prudent financial decision. Instead, he recommended a tax free section 1035 exchange of policy to enhance financial returns. Such an exchange should be handled through an experienced insurance expert who is not connected with the current insurer. He doesn’t recommend expensive whole life policy unless it is for grand children where premium is very low.

Mr. Zaveri frowned upon traditional high-cost Long Term Care policies which represent reimbursement plans. Instead, he recommended upgraded life policy with an additional premium embedded with the features of long term care policy.

Disability insurance is taken to supplement income partially when a person is disabled to perform a specific function and suggested to include an “own occupation” clause in the policy. Since disability benefits are non taxable, he suggested a golden advice to businessmen not to deduct disability insurance premium payments as business expense since IRS will require disability benefits to be reported as income.

Thereafter interesting Q&As followed. He gave his phone number (516 924 7999) pursuant to requests from viewers. Viewers appreciated Mr. Zaveri’s presentation.

(b) Musical Program:

Mr. Manik Malhotra of Sa Re Ga Ma Desi Beats entertained viewers for an hour and a half primarily with old romantic Bollywood songs. At times, viewers danced to the tunes of their favorite songs.

Kicking off with a bhajan, Manik unleashed an array of songs including Pyar Ka Nagma Hai, Tumko Dekha To Khayal Aaya, Hoton Se Chu Lo Tum Mera Geet Amar Kar Do, Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye, Yeh Reshmi Zulfen Yeh Sharabi Aankhe, Mein Shayar To Nahin, Likha Jo Khat Tuzhe, Badan Pe Sitare Lapete Hue, Aisa Mauka Phir Kahaan Milega, O My Darling, Yeh Sham Mastani, Yeh Sama Sama Hai Pyar Ka, O Mere Dil Ke Chen, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Aja Aja Mein Pyar Hun Tera, Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si, Mere Sapno Ki Rani Kab Aayegi, OM Shanti OM, Yeh Chand Sa Roshan Chehra, Baharon Phool Barsao, Chaudwika Chand Ho, Jo Koi Baat Bigad Jaye, Lag Ja Gale, Kajra Mohabbat Wala, I love My India, among others.
