Dear Friends:
The following are brief reports of the Zoom meetings held on May 6 and May 8, 2021. Proceedings of the meetings were recorded and promptly placed on YouTube by Jagdishbhai Patel, VP- PR. The
meetings were anchored by Pankajbhai Parikh, VP, hosted by Jagdishbhai Patel and co-hosted by Niranjanbhai Patel, Secretary. A PowerPoint presentation was prepared by Jyotindrabhai Patel, Past President of GSNY. Thanks to all.
1. THE MAY 6TH MEETING:
The meeting started with a prayer by Mr. & Mrs. Anilbhai & Arunaben Parikh.
(i) Pujya Shree Giriraj Ji Shastriji’s Presentation on मातृ देवो भव:
In his welcome address, President while wishing Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers, reminisced about a seven decades old instance of a student at Kabibai High School in Bombay having bitter arguments with his mother leaving home in anger without drinking a glass of milk to attend morning school and thereafter his anguished mother bringing the glass in principal’s office to make him drink – an example of a loving and caring Mom! No words in the world to describe Mom’s feelings for her children. He cited Shri Shankaracharya’s Sloka Kuputro Jayet Kwachidapi Kumata Na Bhavti – છોરુ કછોરુ થાય પણ માવતર કમાવતર ના થાય. He thanked today’s sponsors Sudarshanbhai & Purnimaben Bhatt.
Pujya Shree Giriraj Ji Shastriji, introduced by Pankajbhai Parikh, VP, kicked off his presentation on मातृ देवो भव with a recital of Manglcharan. Explaining the various meanings of the word मातृ as Mata, Aadar (respect) Murti, cow, Laxmi, Antarix (galaxy), earth, Parmeshwar, Maa Durga, Shastriji described how Yashoda Ma saw the whole universe in Krishna’s mouth.
After explaining the word मातृ, Shastriji explained the words देवो भव, meaning you become a disciple भक्त of your Mom and treat her as your देव, since she gives you protection like a gigantic tree. Illustrating a craving for a motherly love, he cited an example of Lord Krishna who, though awash with all the amenities in Vainkuth, took a birth on earth to enjoy mom’s milk.
Shastriji cited the Sanskrit Sloka Janani Janmabhoomischa Swargadapi Gariyasi to remind that mother and motherland are superior to Heaven. He recited a beautiful poem written by his friend, Chandrahas, 86. He paid tribute to outstanding Moms such as big-hearted Draupadi, brave Jijibai (Shivaji’s Mom), and Anjana Ma (Hanuman’s Mom).
