(i) Dr. Nilesh Soni’s Presentation:
Dr. Nilesh Soni, a versatile physiotherapist, (profile attached) gave an excellent 80-minute presentation on Sciatica and Disk Disorder explaining how the pain from lower back radiates to leg to buttock to calf and to foot. In sciatica, a pinched, injured or compressed nerve in the lower back causes aching, throbbing , limping, weakness and inability to bend.
Explaining, with the aid of impressive slides, the structure of an S-shaped spine consisting of vertebrae, disks, ligaments, muscles, tendons and nerves, Dr. Soni suggested to maintain a proper posture, healthy physical condition, weight management, correct lifting techniques, proper bending of knees, push rather than pull, periodic physical movements, core-strengthening exercise, planks, and avoiding of soft-surface beds to minimize pain of sciatica.
Interesting Q&As session followed. Viewers appreciated Dr. Soni’s down-to-earth explanation of the subject in Gujarati and in simple layman’s terms, sprinkled with humor. Dr. Soni may be contacted at dynamicpts@gmail.com or at his office number 718 661 1710.
